Custodial Supervisor

GENERAL DESCRIPTION 

 Coordinates and assists in the cleaning, maintenance and setup of activities for the applicable buildings and grounds by performing the following duties.  

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.

 Directs workers on routine cleaning tasks and other work as required for daily custodial maintenance.
Assumes knowledge and basic function of all cleaning equipment, supplies and chemicals.
Develops routes for the custodial crew and assigns additional work as applicable.
Requests repairs from the maintenance department as applicable using district supported work order system.  Enters all building level work orders into the system for assignment. Completes low level maintenance work orders that can be handled inside the building.  
Communicates with appropriate school personnel regarding upcoming events to ensure timely and proper setup.
Assumes responsibilities for opening the school and rooms daily.
Removes snow and ice as applicable.
Delivers supplies and equipment to the school as applicable.
Investigates heating and cooling problems.  Refers findings and potential issues to Maintenance and Facilities Director for assignments to technicians. 
Performs repair work on lockers and classroom equipment.
Prepares the cafeteria for lunch and cleans up afterwards.
Maintains custodial and sub-custodial work schedules and payroll data.
Inventories, orders and distributes all necessary janitorial supplies and equipment.
Interprets company policies to workers and enforces safety regulations.
Maintains up to date material safety data sheets. 
Assists principals in fire alarm drills, fire extinguisher and safety inspections.
Completes all reports as required.
 Assumes responsibility of maintaining up to date knowledge of technology utilized by the district.
Perform minor general maintenance related issues throughout the building. 
 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

 Directly supervises employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and negotiated agreements.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

 QUALIFICATIONS

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three months related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.  Working knowledge of general flooring and cleaning chemicals is required. Working knowledge of general cleaning tools including light duty equipment is required. Experience using district selected maintenance software is required.

 LANGUAGE SKILLS 

 Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to staff, students and administrators.  Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers or members of the school community.  

 OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

 Exhibit qualities of leadership and organizational ability and reflect a spirit of cooperation in working with staff and school administration.  Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory in specific field. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community.  Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
