Position Opening: Makerspace Coordinator
 
The Makerspace Coordinator is an 11-month position (August 1st thru June 30th) that is a direct report to the Dean of Faculty.  St. Xavier’s Makerspace exists to enable student-driven creation in response to broad instructional guidelines, and to encourage experimentation and foster creativity outside of the classroom.  The ideal candidate possesses a maker-mentality and has a demonstrated track record of making, knowledge of innovative technologies and the ability to work well with adolescents.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Promote, oversee, and support all elements of the Makerspace
  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the space, including equipment maintenance and ordering
  • Provide one-on-one instruction to students
  • Develop and implement equipment training for students, faculty and staff
  • Serve as a champion for innovative technology within the school and the community
  • Maintain a creative and safe work environment
  • Maintain and repair all software and equipment (3D printers, laser, CNC, vinyl printer, power tools, etc)
  • Schedule the use of the Makerspace for classes, clubs, individuals and events
    Serve as a resource for faculty who want to use the Makerspace in their curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with IT department on issues related to equipment, maintenance and ordering
  • Successfully administer a yearly budget
  • Develop and lead a Makerspace Summer Camp program
  • Moderate the Maker Club and train students to be leaders within the space

 
The Makerspace Coordinator will be a person who has a dynamic personality, is organized, well-rounded, engaging, and who facilitates growth and collaboration inside and outside of the school. Additionally, they will:
 

  • Provide evidence of an ability and commitment to furthering the Jesuit, Catholic mission and identity of the school.
  • Two years of relevant professional experience is preferred.
  • Strong technical understanding of 3D printers, laser cutters, desktop CNC machines, power-tools, microprocessor programming, audio, video and software.
  • Positive attitude in dynamic situations/Highly self-disciplined and self-motivated.
  • Have experience working with adolescents
  • Show a demonstrated track record of success
