Position:          Director of Campus Ministry

Description: The Director of Campus Ministry is a committed, faith-filled, academically qualified Catholic who provides for the pastoral care and faith formation of students, faculty, and staff of St. Xavier High School. He/she will follow the example of St. Ignatius of meeting people “where they are,” and invite them into a deeper spiritual life. He/she will be a religious leader of the school, who helps keep the mission and our religious heritage at the forefront of everything we do.   

The Director of Campus Ministry is an 11-month position that is a direct report to the Principal of St. Xavier High School with the following primary responsibilities:

Student Formation

  •  Minister to the students
  1.    Be available to the students and create an inviting space that serves as a hub of the students’ spiritual life.
  2.  Invite and empower students to leadership opportunities in spiritual programming.
  • Retreat Program Coordinator
  1. Creates/maintains an overall vision for the program.
  2. Collaborates with other Campus Ministers responsible for each grade level retreat.
  3. Adjusts programming as necessary to meet the needs of the students.
  4. Recruits adults in the building to participate in the retreat program.
  5. Attends retreats as needed.
  6. Serves on the Kairos Board.
  7. Plans and implements optional retreats for upperclassmen.
  •  Liturgy Coordinator
  1. Leads the planning, set-up, and implementation of Campus Ministry-sponsored liturgies.
  2. Forms and leads the Liturgy Committee.
  3. Coordinates with the presider, sacristan, liturgical music coordinator, sound technician, facilities personnel, etc.
  4. Coordinates Advent and Lenten Reconciliation Services, including scheduling the confessors.
  • Prayer Leader – Creates a prayerful foundation for the community
  1. Oversees the all-school daily Examen and weekly Meditation.
  2. Invites, teaches, and empowers others to lead prayer.
  3. Co-Chairs bi-annual Ignatian Values Day.
  4. Collaborates with the Chaplaincy program for extra-curriculars.

Departmental and School Leadership

  • Directs the Campus Ministry department and chairs department meetings.
  • Conducts yearly evaluation of all personnel in the Campus Ministry Department and those who work in conjunction with Campus Ministry and Adult faith formation.
  • Prepares and administers the campus ministry budget: submits requisitions for bills, petitions president or principal for necessary funds/equipment.
  • Attends bi-weekly department heads meetings, supervisory meetings with the Principal, and weekly meeting with Principal and Assistant Principals.

Faculty/Staff Formation

  • Plans and implements formation programs for employees in their first 5 years at St. Xavier. 
  • Introduces faculty and staff to the life of Ignatius, Ignatian Spirituality, and the Spiritual Exercises.
  • Coordinates Christian Life Communities (CLC) for faculty/staff.
  • Makes him/herself available for pastoral care and spiritual direction for the community.
  • Plans liturgical services and prayer experiences for faculty/staff as needed (often in conjunction with faculty/staff meetings).
  • Plans the annual Faculty/Staff Retreat Day.

Connection with Outside Organizations and Programming:

  • Maintains contact with the Archdiocese and the Jesuit Schools Network.
  • Connects the St. Xavier community with prayer and theological resources outside of school, including programming offered by the Archdiocese, the Midwest Province of the Society of Jesus, other local institutions (i.e. Xavier University, Milford Retreat Center), and online resources. 


  • Collaborates with other departments, including Community Service, Religious Studies and the Alumni office, in their programming as appropriate.
  • Explores interest and opportunities to engage parent and alumni communities in spiritual programming.
  • Participate in school-wide employee programming such as Opening Faculty/Staff meetings, General Faculty/Staff meetings, and Faculty/Staff in-service days.
  • Participate in on-going personal spiritual development and professional minister growth, particularly in Ignatian spirituality
  • Other duties as assigned.

The Director of Campus Ministry shall be a person who has a dynamic personality, is organized, well rounded, engaging, and who facilitates growth and collaboration.  Additionally, they will have the following qualifications and competencies:

  • Provide evidence of an ability and commitment to furthering the Jesuit, Catholic mission and identity of the school. 
  • Have a minimum of five years of relevant professional experience with an advanced degree in theology.
  • Demonstrate a track record of success in teaching and/or leadership experience in a school setting. 
  • Administrative and/or Department Head experience preferred. 
  • Participate fully in the life of the Catholic Church as an active member.
  • Be well-versed in Ignatian Spirituality.
  • Engaging and approachable with both students and adults.
