Assistant Principal – ANTICIPATED

Sycamore Community Schools / Sycamore Junior High School

Assists the principal in overseeing the total operation of the junior high school by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.  Other duties may be assigned.Assists the principal to ensure the school runs effectively and efficiently daily.
Assists in monitoring compliance of master contracts and Board policies and procedures.
Collaborates with the principal to ensure quality student achievement.
Supervises staff and conducts classroom observations and evaluations as applicable.
Interviews applicants and makes recommendations for hire as applicable.
Coordinates student teachers and observers.
Provides school/home communication public relations services as applicable.
Assists in creating and implementing positive discipline programs.
Supervises building maintenance and custodial staff committees at building and district levels.
Oversees building safety and security.
Coordinates multiple programs and activities including but not limited to athletics, magazine sales, picture day, building keys and 8th grade day, awards day, assemblies and promotion, and assists in extracurricular supervision.
Performs annual revision of emergency exit routes and schedules and implements emergency fire and tornado drills.
Assesses building facility needs.
Maintains a safe and orderly environment in the building.
Confers with teachers, students, and parents concerning student’s educational and behavioral issues.
Assists in developing and maintaining a fiscally responsible budget.
Collaborates with the principal and staff to plan and coordinate building goals and continuous improvement plan.
Oversees and maintains student handbook.
Oversees Athletic program.
Assists with special education case management duties as needed.
Assumes responsibility of maintaining up to date knowledge of technology utilized by the district.
Directly supervises employees.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district’s policies and negotiated agreements.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration.  Ability to read, analyze and interpret testing and survey results, financial reports and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers or members of the school community.  Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conforms to prescribed style and format.  Ability to effectively present information to administration, staff, public groups, and/or Board of Education. 
Valid certificate/license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory based on school objectives.  Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community.  Ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication.  Ability to use computers where applicable.  Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
