Position Requirements:
Licensed Practical Nurse from an accredited school and possess a State of Ohio licensure
1-2 years of nursing experience, preferably in pediatric psychiatric nursing.
Individual must be prepared to work a flexible PRN schedule.
Individual must be able to understand and develop and appropriate overview of the Agency’s philosophy and purpose.
Candidate must be able to work as part of the treatment team, demonstrating flexibility and cooperation.
Job Goals:
The Nurse is responsible for setting up and dispensing medications to the clients at St. Aloysius.
The Nurse constantly interprets medical policy and procedures to all treatment staff in school and Day Treatment. The Nurse explains pre and post testing and lab procedures not only to the child, but to the treatment staff as needed. Often these requests must be prioritized very quickly because the demand for information is multiple and immediate. In cooperation with the treatment team, the Nurse monitors and records any reactions to medication which are reported to and interpreted by the psychiatrist.
Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the prescribers. Observes for desired or adverse effects of medications and reports them to the prescriber. Responsible for medications for School and Day Treatment. Responsible for medication administration as prescribed during school hours and in compliance with standards for medication administration.
Evaluates the seriousness of accidental injury, illness or complaint and treatment appropriately and determines if treatment needs further attention and notify the Guardian.
Work as a liaison between doctors, pharmacy, hospitals, school nurses and St. Aloysius staff.
