Position Title: ESL Itinerant Teacher
Department: Pupil Personnel
Reports to: Principal/Director of Pupil Personnel
Approved by: North College Hill Board of Education
Summary: Coordinates services and instruction for students identified as English
Learners in accordance with state guidelines. Facilitates communication between
teachers, administration, and other district personnel to improve consistency of
implementation of policies and procedures around EL education.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Other duties may be assigned.
1. Establish lesson plans and implement curriculum based on Ohio TESOL Standards.
2. Implement classroom activities that support curriculum and student learning.
3. Assist in establishing effective daily teacher schedules.
4. Demonstrate flexible teaching: whole-group, small group, individual student and coteaching.
5. Monitor ELs progress in English (reading, writing, listening and speaking), contentarea classwork, attendance, and general school behavior.
6. Administer assessments of language proficiency tests for ELs, both initial and yearly
standardized, and maintains all documentation thereof.
7. Prepare and maintain all ELP Plans required for state documentation for ELs on
8. Show knowledge of a wide range of academic scaffolds and accommodations and use
of those within the content-area classroom.
9. Collaborate with content-area teacher to support ELs academic success. Knowledge of
co-teaching and relationship-building skills to support EL student learning within the

11. Assess the accomplishments of the EL on a regular basis and provides progress
reports as required.
12. Have knowledge of the RtI process and seeks support of appropriate specialists when
need arises.

14. Meet with, facilitates and documents communication with parents while providing
opportunities for acculturation and socialization within the American school setting.
Assists teachers throughout the building in fostering this communication as well.
15. May provide technical assistance and generalized support to content-area teachers in
regard to ELs.
16. May provide training and assistance to buildings and individual teachers to ensure
appropriate identification of ELs, support and service of ELs and general classroom
accommodations for ELs.
17. Attend all staff meetings, team meetings, trainings and professional development as

Education and/or Experience
1. Minimum Bachelor’s Degree
2. Minimum three years teaching experience in any capacity while possessing a
Valid Ohio Teaching Certificate/License
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
1. Valid Ohio Certificate/License with TESOL Certificate or willingness to obtain
one within one year.
2. Must pass criminal background check.
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,
technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and
respond to questions from administrators, Board of Education, clients, parents, and the
general public.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference,
and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply
concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or
diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Other Skills and Abilities:
Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional program;
ability to plan and implement lessons based on school objectives and the needs and
abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective
working relationships with students, peers, parents, community, and administrators;
ability to speak clear and concisely in written or oral communication.
