Position Title: Alternative Classroom Assignment (In-School Suspension)

Reports To: Monitor Building Principals and Assistant Principals

GENERAL DESCRIPTION and GOAL: Supervise and monitor students assigned to the Alternative Classroom Assignment Program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

 Provide supervision for students who are assigned to the Alternative Classroom Assignment classroom.

 Take daily attendance.

 Review alternative classroom assignment policies, procedures and student expectations with students daily.

 Work with students and or other staff members during student reflection period on issues such as behavior management and the prevention of undesirable behaviors that resulted in student being assigned to ACA.

 Monitor all ACA assignments; provide encouragement and feedback to students, monitor tests, computer work and provide instructional assistance as appropriate.

 Ensure students have security escorts to restroom facilities and make sure they eat lunch.

 Email teachers for work requests and complete student Work Completion Logs for all students assigned to the room.

 Facilitate and arrange delivery of student lunches when necessary.

 Be trained and implement Conscious Discipline

 Refer behavior problems to Principal/ Assistant Principals.

 Perform other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job requires supervision of students on a daily basis.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

 High school diploma or equivalent. Associates or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

 Good written, verbal communication and organizational skills

 Enjoys working with school-aged children

 Operating knowledge of computers and Microsoft office

 Must be able to recognize and deescalate potential volatile situations

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

 Valid Educational Aide Permit issued by the Ohio Department of Education

 First Aid training and CPR certification is required

 Must become CPI certified within six months of employment

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administration. Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write routine reports and documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, parents, agencies, teachers or members of the school community. Ability to effectively present information to administration, staff, public groups, and/or Board of Education.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory based on school objectives. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, peers, parents and community; ability to speak clearly and concisely in written or oral communication. Ability to use computers where applicable. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies. Ability to work under pressure at times and keep un-chaotic environment.
