Position Announcement Workstation Technician
The Hamilton County Educational Service Center has an opening for a Workstation Technician for the 2021-2022 school year. Maintains and supports the district’s end-user technology, including all workstations, laptops, and peripheral equipment. Installs, maintains, and supports district-approved software. Provides support for basic network troubleshooting, maintenance, and recovery. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
Strong computer background with A+ Hardware Certification or equivalent experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating Systems, Servers (Exchange, SharePoint, SQL) and Networking (Active Directory). Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, InfoPath). Working knowledge of inkjet and laser printers with the ability to perform set-up, maintenance, and basic troubleshooting. Able to perform basic network troubleshooting. Able to follow directions, work independently and show initiative within the guidelines established by the Technology Administrator. Knowledge of Apple hardware and software desired.
Experience and proof of on-the-job skills are essential. Must possess strong communication skills, including powerful listening and problem-solving skills. Able to train staff in the daily use of technology. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have own transportation. Minimum of 1 – 2 years’ experience in a help desk or technical support role.
1. Provides on-site and remote support for hardware, software and associated peripherals troubleshooting, maintenance, installation, and upgrades.
2. Provides basic operating system installation and troubleshooting.
3. Assists in the creation and testing of standard images for all workstations.
4. Installs new technology and relocates existing technology as required.
5. Executes periodic technical “clean up” tasks as needed.
6. Sets up and troubleshoots computer connections to the district network, internet, e-mail, other district applications and network servers.
7. Assists with the maintenance, installation and troubleshooting of the district’s network infrastructure, local and wide-area, wired and wireless network components as well as network-defined peripherals.
8. Responds, in a timely manner, to assigned requests in the district’s problem reporting system.
9. May provide ad-hoc user training in response to problem resolution.
10. Manages the onsite parts depot and movement of parts. Manages the movement of equipment offsite to outside vendors for repair.
11. With the network administrator, troubleshoots researches and resolves virus and spyware issues.
12. Provides recommendations concerning appropriate configurations of desktop technology.
13. Performs routine maintenance on desktops, operating systems, and software.
14. Proactively recommends modifications or upgrades to minimize or avoid failures or down-time.
15. Manages researches and evaluates hardware/software as needed. May serve as subject-matter expert for technology related to specific projects assigned by district technology coordinator.
16. Recommends procedures and/or services that may be beneficial to improve productivity and/or conserve financial resources.
17. Works professionally with support vendors to open and resolve technical issues that are beyond in-district personnel skill.
18. Implements security procedures, software, and “policies” to keep district technology and data secure from internal and external attacks.
19. Provides technical support and expertise to district personnel. Serves as a resource person, able to respond to questions about technology (hardware and software).
20. Functions as backup for the network administrator as needed.
21. Pursues personal goals to improve future performance. Participates in a variety of activities to keep current with advances in technology.
22. Participates in decisions concerning hardware and software acquisitions.
23. Works with district consultants and other technology vendors as needed.
24. Assists with inventory management of district technology.
25. With lead technician, manages receipt of new equipment and software, including the parts depot.
26. Facilitates communication regarding the use of technology.
27. Promotes the ethical use of technology.
28. Works cooperatively to support a successful team effort.
29. Takes initiative to solve problems independently, but knows when to call for assistance.
30. Other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee.
SALARY & BENEFITS:
Shall be appointed to a full-time 261-day contract. Salary range $30 – 40K based on previous experience.
