Anticipated Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing position for 2021-2022 Part Time/ Full Time

TITLE:                              Intervention Specialist – Hearing Handicapped

 

QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree in deaf education

 

REPORTS TO:
Supervisor of the Hearing Impaired Program

 

JOB SUMMARY:
To lead students under his/her charge toward the fulfillment of their potential for intellectual, emotional and psychological growth and maturation.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1.                  Identify, procure and coordinate appropriate supplemental services to monitor progress of the child with a hearing impairment in the regular education classroom.

2.                  Inservice regular classroom teachers and counselors as to best practices.

3.                  Select and develop instructional materials and equipment for children with hearing impairments.

4.                  Assist in the modification of the classroom environment for the child with a hearing impairment in the regular classroom.

5.                  Provide habilitative activities such as auditory training, speech reading (lip reading), language and communication.

6.                  Monitor the use of all amplification equipment utilized by the hearing impaired students.

7.                  Maintain accurate, complete and correct records as required by law, district policy and administrative regulation. File required reports in complete and timely fashion.

8.                  Collaborate with other members of the staff in planning instructional goals, objectives, methods and developing graded courses of study.

9.                  Establish and maintain cooperative relations with parents.

10.              Provide for his/her own professional growth by establishing and working toward yearly, measurable, self-devised goals and by an ongoing program of reading, workshops, seminars, conferences and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

11.              Know and use sign language.

 

OTHER PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.                                                       Assist in the development of instructional and behavioral strategies to enable the child with a hearing impairment to receive an appropriate education in the regular classroom.

2.                                                       Demonstrate instructional techniques and materials for identified children with hearing impairments in the regular classroom.

3.                                                       Protect the confidentiality of all students enrolled in the hearing impaired program.

4.                                                       Work as a team member for the student through open, positive communication with families’ professionals and the community-at-large.

5.                                                       Maintain regular attendance

6.                                                       Must be able to travel to various locations on a daily basis

 

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
1.                                                       Salary as per current salary schedule.

2.                                                       School calendar(s) adopted or any amendments thereto.

3.                                                       Fulfill all duties in connection with his/her job assignment as he/she may be directed to perform.

4.                                                       Abide by and maintain all rules, regulations and policies presently in existence, adopted or amended hereafter by the employer during this contract term for its government and the government of its employees and the pupils of the school district.

 

EVALUATION:
Professional Personnel will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy and the master agreement on evaluation.
