Nutrition Specialist- Head Start

The Hamilton County Educational Service Center has an opening for the position of Nutrition Specialist for the Head Start Program, for the 2022-2023 school year. Applications and resumes will be accepted until filled.

JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for prepping food, receiving food, and monitoring food service for HCESC Early Learning Program.

QUALIFICATIONS:Associate degree in Food Management, Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field. Three years of experience preferred in Food Management.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:Assist Nutrition Manager with the management of the Child and Adult Care Food Program, including completing the Annual CACFP Application and submitting monthly claims.
Assist Nutrition Manager in completing CACFP Monitoring at the Early Learning Program sites. Traveling to each classroom site is required to complete the monitoring.
Assist Nutrition Manager in securing food service licensing.
Ensure all Head Start sites meet Hamilton County Health Department and the Head Start Performance standards in the area of food service.
Maintain and improve the kitchen and food service operating procedures to meet Ohio Food Code from Ohio Department of Health.
Stay current on State of Ohio Food Handler training.
Attend CACFP and food safety trainings as needed.
Receive milk from the caterer and restoke milk using the FIFO system.
Receive food from the catering service, separate food into proper bowls, and place in holding receptacles (ex. refrigerator or warmers).
Provide feedback to the caterer and Nutrition Manager to ensure the proper amount of food was delivered, including verifying all specialized milk and food for special diets was delivered.
Prep breakfast, lunch, and snack for Kemper Heights location.
Restock disposable tableware items in the Kitchen.
Restock soap and sanitizer at Kitchen sink and Kitchen restroom.
Restock HNA stations with disposable tableware.
Clean refrigerators, warmers and sheet pans as needed. Place clean aluminum foil on sheet pans.
Responsible for washing and drying soiled kitchen towels.
Transport and distribute meals/milk to classrooms at Kemper Heights location.
Retrieve carts after meals as necessary and clean up Kitchen area after meal service.
Aid with answering questions regarding CACFP or nutrition issues.
Resource for nutritional materials for staff, parents, and classrooms.
Correspond as needed with the caterer and classrooms to resolve food related issues/situations.
Responsible for reviewing health records of any children who require a special diet.
Responsible for maintaining documentation of special diets for children at Kemper Heights. Documentation will be kept near the food prep area for reference.
OTHER PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:Demonstrates effective communication skills with parents, children, staff, and other members for the school community to help meet health needs in the school environment.
Completes daily work and long-term projects in a timely manner and according to established deadlines.
Understands and uses technology, as available, to maximize efficiency and support professional responsibilities.
Displays professional behavior in regard to appearance, demeanor, punctuality and attendance.
Professionally engages in and completes other duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Shall be appointed to a limited contract with the number of works days established by the employment contract. Salary to be established by the board.
